Elements and espace

Integration between Elements and espace allows researchers to deposit their research outputs into espace directly via the Elements system.

However, Elements and espace are separate platforms with discrete roles.

Elements is Curtin’s publication management system and is managed by the Research Office at Curtin (ROC). Elements harvests details of publications for Curtin-affiliated researchers from external databases and facilitates manual entry of publications. Access to Elements is restricted to Curtin staff.

Curtin researchers deposit their research publications into espace through Elements. Guidance on how to use Elements is available via the Curtin Staff Portal at Elements training.

espace, Curtin’s institutional repository, is an open access digital collection of Curtin research publications and Higher Degree by Research theses, managed by the Curtin Library.

espace collections

espace comprises the following collections:

  • Curtin Research Publications

Published works by Curtin staff, postgraduate students and affiliates.

  • Curtin Theses

Higher Degree by Research theses completed by Curtin postgraduate students.

Benefits of contributing to espace

The University strongly encourages Curtin researchers to make their publications open access via espace, for the following benefits:

  • Enhance visibility and research impact : espace can enhance the value and impact of your research by making it freely accessible and more visible through Google, Google Scholar, Trove and OAIster, with the potential to increase citations

  • Long-term storage and access : espace preserves your research output in a secure, stable digital environment, with persistent links that can be used in your online profiles

  • Compliance with funder mandates : espace enables you to comply with open access policies of funding bodies including the Australian Research Council (ARC) and the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) – to deposit research output into an open access repository

  • Usage statistics : espace provides usage statistics for material in the repository

  • Handle identifier : all records are assigned a handle identifier, enabling persistent linking and altmetrics tracking.

Requesting changes to records in espace

Errors to espace metadata records can be reported to Curtin Library’s espace team.

If you believe a publication is available on espace in a way that constitutes copyright infringement, a breach of an agreed license or contract, please notify Curtin University by completing a Takedown Notice available at Curtin University Copyright.
