Research data management: Introduction

Managing research data

Research data management covers the planning, creating, storing, organising, accessing, sharing, describing, publishing and curating of data.

Curtin researchers are required to comply with the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research requirements on proper management and retention of research data.

Curtin University has taken a four-pronged approach to ensure that Curtin complies with the Code. Curtin University's Research Data and Primary Materials Policy supports good practice by detailing responsibilities surrounding research data management.

A Data Management Plan documents all the practices, responsibilities, procedures and policies that apply to the management of a research project's data.

This guide provides information on best practice in managing research data. The focus is on digital research data, but much of the information can also be applied to non-digital data.
